Suzette Blackwell, Esq.
Ms. Blackwell has been a licensed attorney for over 20 years and brings extensive experience as an analyst and strategist for corporate clients, government agencies, and individuals in areas of tax, estate planning and immigration law.
Ms. Blackwell advises corporate and-non-profit clients on formation of business organizations, corporate governance, and federal tax law. She has served as counsel regarding complex legal issues related to the Internal Revenue Code, treasury regulations and revenue rulings, such as: tax free statutory mergers, tax-exempt status for U.S. territory banks, and spinning off a division of publicly traded corporation into a private foundation. She has served as an integral part of a legal team in numerous public finance transactions for waste recovery systems, housing and clean water. The team structured transactions for the issuance of over $13.8 billion of securities in a two-year period. She negotiated and drafted complex contracts for corporate clients, including agreements in connection with obligations of a foreign nation.
As immigration counsel, Ms. Blackwell helps entrepreneurs, individuals and their family members obtain temporary and permanent visas. She is a staunch advocate for family unity and represented the interests of millions of immigrants on behalf of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) a national organization, on Capitol Hill to impact immigration policy. In past years she played a key role as organizer, and speaker at AILA DC Chapter annual conferences approved for continuing legal education credit.
Ms. Blackwell’s estate planning practice combines legal experience and practical solutions to develop estate plans designed to meet her clients’ personal and family goals. She works with all age groups to help plan for their future, whether the need is for wills, living wills, trusts, power of attorney, medical power of attorney or HIPAA authorization.
Ms. Blackwell is licensed in Maryland and the District of Columbia. She is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and is a member of the American Bar Association.
